One of the highlights of our OCPP to Modbus TCP and RTU Server Gateway is the Smart Charging operations feature, which is based on Charging Profiles to combine usage priority, schedules, and power limitation in the EV charger directly from the gateway.

These operations were limited to only one of the gateway's two available modes. However, given its potential, this functionality has been expanded, and now it can be used regardless of the selected mode, delivering an additional level of control.

As a reminder, the two available modes are:

  • BMS Central System mode: The gateway connects the EV Charging Points to a Modbus BMS, with the BMS acting as the Central System.
  • External Central System mode: The gateway connects the chargers to an external OCPP Central System, with the Modbus BMS relegated to monitoring duties.

The Smart Charging operation's main features are the possibility of monitoring, managing, and restricting the use of charging devices and describing time intervals with power/current limits to optimize energy consumption.

These operations are defined via OCPP Smart Charging Profiles, allowing a combination of usage priority, schedules, and power limitations. The BMS can create and manage these profiles, which can be stacked and merged in the EV charger so they can be combined to create complex charging profiles.

Now, providing a full energy management integration of the EV parking area is in your hands by creating and managing these profiles from your Modbus BMS or BEMS.

  • Optimization of energy usage in the parking area and the whole building.
  • Priority charging times and power levels for the connected vehicles.
  • Scalability of the EV charging area, adding more charging spots to the EV parking area.
