QUESTION
Inside a Talk2M Free+ or Pro account you can set the LAN firewall level to “Standard” or “High”. What does it mean? Which devices are reachable through the Talk2M connection on the LAN side of the Ewon.
ANSWER
One of the key features of Talk2M is the ability to create LAN dependencies behind each Ewon and to protect the network including these dependencies through a firewall.
Inside a Talk2M Free+ or Pro account you can set the LAN firewall level to “Standard” or “High”.
When set to “Standard” then there is no filtering. All devices on the LAN side can be reached.
When set to “High”, then filtering is applied and only declared devices will be reachable through the Talk2M connection.
In the "Active Connection" section of the eCatcher application, the applied firewall level is represented by an open padlock for the “Standard” level and a closed padlock for the “High” level.
Example 1:
The closed padlock indicates that LAN device filtering is enabled (firewall level set to High).
Only the LAN IP address of the Ewon itself and the other two declared IP addresses can be reached on the LAN side through the Talk2M connection.
Example 2:
The closed padlock indicates that LAN device filtering is enabled (firewall level set to High).
Only the LAN IP address of the Ewon itself can be reached through the Talk2M connection.
Example 3:
The open padlock indicates that LAN device filtering is disabled (firewall level set to Standard).
All devices in the LAN network can be reached through the Talk2M connection.
How to change the firewall setting of an Ewon?
In eCatcher, select the Ewon and open its properties window.
Go the the “LAN & Firewall’ section and click on the “Configure LAN Devices & Firewall…” button.
Following window will open:
Here you can either add new LAN devices by clicking on “Add LAN Device…” (shown by the green arrow on the picture), or disable LAN filtering by setting the firewall level to “Standard” (shown by the yellow arrow on the picture).
Click the “OK” button to confirm the changes.
