The newest addition in the Anybus CompactCom 40 PROFINET IRT product offer is the System Redundancy S2 functionality.
System redundancy is a high-priority demand in e.g. the process industry or at infrastructure installations where the system must be maintained/available even during a failure event. The PROFINET System redundancy protocol describes the mechanisms that grant IO Controller access to redundantly configured devices. System redundancy S2 is not possible in combination with PROFINET IRT communication.
System redundancy relies on the concept of multiple connections to a device in order to maintain the complete system in the event of a failure. System redundancy for PROFINET is available in different setups. The S2 functionality, implemented in the Anybus CompactCom 40 PROFINET IRT (supporting both Profinet RT and IRT), makes it possible for two PROFINET RT controllers, one primary and one backup, to connect to the device in question. If the primary controller fails, the backup controller instantly takes over the communication without any disturbance on the network. Running S2 requires specific controllers supporting this feature.
The Anybus CompactCom 40 PROFINET has support for the single NAP with two SR-ARs (S2) and parametrization via the Combined Object Container (COC) functionality. In S2 the NAP sends Input data over Backup AR in addition to Primary AR.
