HMS and Nokia showcase energy saving solution for telecom base stations

During the 6th Annual Telecom Energy Efficiency Forum in Istanbul, HMS Networks AB (HMS) and Nokia presented the new Site Energy Management System (SEMS) based on HMS Netbiter technology.

During the 6th Annual Telecom Energy Efficiency Forum in Istanbul, HMS Networks AB (HMS) and Nokia presented the new Site Energy Management System (SEMS) based on HMS Netbiter technology.

Due to increasing energy costs directly reflecting on the operational costs there is a need for every operator to implement effective energy strategies for future profitability and growth. To achieve profit improvements and emission reductions, operators need to decrease energy consumption, use renewable energy, and take control of the equipment in the field with smart remote management solutions.

“The Site Energy Management System SEMS allows operators to remotely access real‐time energy data in their networks. This improves the efficiency of the sites and enables better planning, so I wasn’t surprised to see tremendous interest in the SEMS at the event in Istanbul,” says Rohit Kumar, head of New Portfolio Solutions for Global Services, Networks, Nokia.

“We are already deploying the system for some of our customers in Africa and Europe helping them to optimize their energy consumption.”

Based on the HMS Netbiter technology, the SEMS solution enables full control of all energy sources at every base station site, thus allowing operators to achieve profit improvements and lower carbon footprint.

By gathering energy data from the field, operators have full control of the energy efficiency of each site, and can identify waste and proactively execute field services.

“Operators require solutions for cost‐effective network operations, including means to minimize CAPEX and OPEX through low energy consumption. Together with Nokia we have developed an end‐to‐end smart remote management system, using our Netbiter technology, that can control all energy sources at a base station site providing a robust solution to answer the operator needs,” says Bartek Stelmasiak Candell, key account manager at HMS.
