Anybus Firmware Manager II

Anybus Transport Provider

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

The Anybus CompactCom interface module in your device successfully reaches WAIT_PROCESS state, and you are able to find it when you scan the network with HMS IPConfig.

However, when trying to perform a firmware update of the Anybus CompactCom, your device's entry is grayed out in Anybus Firmware Manager II with the status message "FTP not available", making it impossible to perform a firmware update via FTP.  Plus, you don't have access to the web and FTP servers of the Anybus CompactCom.

SOLUTION DESCRIPTION (ABCC 30)

Please note that firmware updates for Anybus CompactCom 30 product are only possible via the serial interface in Firmware Manager II. Therefore, when the "Automatic Firmware Update" option is chosen in Firmware Manager II, it is normal to get your ABCC30 module grayed out, because the update via FTP is simply not possible.

SOLUTION DESCRIPTION (ABCC 40)

First and foremost, you have to make sure that you have Attribute #6 (Enable FTP server) of the Ethernet Host Object (F9h), Instance #1, enabled on the application's side.

If the issue persists despite that, then it is possible that there is a mismatch between the IP settings of your device and the IP settings used by your PC's network adapter.

It is worth noting that HMS IPConfig uses the Secure Host IP Configuration Protocol (SHICP) to find Anybus products on the network. Due to this, even if the device IP settings do not match those used by your PC's network adapter, HMS IPConfig will still find the device on the network.

On the other hand, to perform automatic updates, Anybus Firmware Manager II uses the IP settings of your PC network adapter to get access to the FTP server of the devices.

As you can see on the screenshot below, even though the IP settings of the Anybus CompactCom EtherNet/IP module does not match those of the PC's network adapter, it is still discovered by HMS IPConfig.

However, if we try to access the internal webpage of the device, we get an error.

Similarly, even though you can see the device when you scan the network in Anybus Firmware Manager II, it is grayed out. When you hover the cursor on it, you can see the message "FTP not available".

Once we apply the correct IP settings to our module to match those of the network adapter used, we are able to access the webpage without problem, and when we scan the network in Anybus Firmware Manager II, the device is no longer grayed out, and we have the possibility to update its firmware.
