In this part of the ACT Tool series, we’ll guide you through the process of creating a new project and configuring the bus in the ACT Tool. These steps are essential for setting up communication between CAN, CAN FD, and other network protocols on Ixxat devices like CANnector and FRC Gateways.

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Creating a New Project:

  • Open the Advanced Configuration Tool (ACT) on your PC.
  • From the main menu, select New Project to start creating a new bus configuration.
  • Name your project and choose the appropriate device from the product list (e.g., CANnector or FRC Gateway).
  • Save the project in a designated folder for easy access later.

2. Setting Up the Bus Configuration:

  • Once the project is created, navigate to the Bus Configuration section.
  • Define the communication parameters for your bus, including:
    - Bus Type: Choose CAN, CAN FD, or any other protocol supported by your device.
    - Baud Rate: Set the baud rate based on your network requirements.
    - Channel Mapping: Assign specific communication channels to your CAN or CAN FD networks.
  • Use the drag-and-drop functionality in ACT to map the communication channels efficiently.

3. Adding CAN or CAN FD Nodes:

  • Add the nodes or devices that will be part of the CAN or CAN FD bus.
  • Configure each node with unique identifiers and settings that align with your network structure.

4. Setting Up Filters and Routing Rules:

  • Apply message filters to manage the data flow within your CAN network. This ensures that only relevant messages are processed by the nodes.
  • Set routing rules to determine how messages are forwarded between different buses or channels.

5. Saving and Deploying the Configuration:

  • Once the bus configuration is complete, save the project.
  • Download the configuration to your Ixxat CANnector or FRC Gateway to activate the bus communication.
