Anybus X-gateway Modbus TCP Client/Master - PROFINET-IO Device, p/n AB9007-B
What is the PROFINET IO setting PDev and when to use it?
Background:
Enabling the PDev (Physical Device) option in the PROFINET IO settings of the X-gateway Modbus-TCP Client/Master activates the storage of additional information about the PROFINET interface.
This includes data specific to the interface, Ethernet ports, the station name, and the IP address. It is stored in a non-volatile part of the PROFINET interface memory.
When to use:
If you need the PROFINET device to store topology information about neighbouring devices in the network, you will need to activate the PDev option.
Storing topology information makes "Simple Device Commissioning and Replacement" possible.
Good to know:
If you enable the PDev option in the PROFINET IO settings, you’ll need to use the DAP (Device Access Point) found in the GSD file called
X-gateway Modbus-TCP (PDev).
Otherwise, use the DAP
X-gateway Modbus-TCP (No PDev).
Important:
If you enable PDev in the settings, but fall short of choosing the correct DAP while commissioning, you will end up not being able to write PROFINET output process data!
A PROFINET DCP reset of mode 2 or mode 8 performs a PDev parameter reset, among others.
